Data Scientist Intern
The interview process involved an initial phone screen, followed by a panel interview with three data scientists. The panel focused on assessing my technical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and understanding of real-world data science applications. They asked me to present a project from beginning to end to showcase my technical proficiency.
- How do you handle a heavy workload when facing strict deadlines?
- Could you describe a project you worked on from start to finish to illustrate your technical skills?
Product Manager
I had a video interview on MS Teams with an HR rep. We talked about my background and the job requirements to see if I fit. After that, I had another MS Teams video interview with the hiring manager and a team member. It turns out they need someone who can come into the office one day a week, which the HR person didn't mention. I said I'm open to relocating to Maryland (it's about 1.5 hours away). They also really wanted someone with a lot of Stop Loss Pricing experience. My experience with pricing Stop Loss is only a year, though I've worked with it for over 20 years. I got a rejection email the next day. It would have been helpful if HR knew the hiring manager's requirements better.
- Would you be willing to commute to Baltimore weekly?
Senior Scrum Master
Had a 1-hour panel interview with the Hiring Manager, Agile Coach, Staff SWE, and Principal SWE. The Hiring Manager didn't show up or let the team know he couldn't make it. Then the Hiring Manager wanted another 1:1 interview because of their own communication issues. Got an offer Friday afternoon and asked until Wednesday to decide, but they rescinded it the same day for not accepting immediately. Seems like CareFirst doesn't give candidates time to consider offers. Avoid them.
- What is your 30-60-90-120 day plan?
- How do you approach conflict management?
- Tell me about your experience working with challenging developers.
Instructional Designer
The recruiter was super responsive and the process felt really smooth. It was a total of four interviews over six weeks. First, a quick 20-minute chat with the recruiter over the phone. Then, a 45-minute video call with the Hiring Manager for a behavioral and job-fit discussion. After that, another 45-minute video session with a fellow SID and an HR person to talk about team fit and culture. Finally, a short 15-minute video meeting with the VP for a final job-fit and mission check. They didn't do any technical tests, but instead focused on how my experience in higher education and ed tech could apply to corporate learning and development, specifically in learning design and training assessment/facilitation.
- What motivates your shift from higher education and educational technology to the corporate nonprofit healthcare and insurance industries.
