First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at C&S Wholesale Grocers.
Administrative Assistant
The interview process was quick and the interviewer was kind. They asked a lot of questions and were very thorough in explaining the position, its duties, and who would be in charge. The interviewer also shared a lot of background about the company, which was helpful in confirming that applying was a good decision.
- Can you share an instance where you had to persevere through workplace obstacles?
Operations Development Program
The interview process involved a case interview, followed by a group activity and a presentation. After that, there were two 1:1 interviews: one with HR and one with the hiring manager. These interviews focused on behavioral questions, and they wanted to hear more about my background and skills. The whole interview process took about 4 hours, including breaks. It was a group setting, and we also got to meet other people in the same program.
- Can you share an example of when you improved or altered a process?
Distribution Operations Manager
So the typical interview process, it starts with a recruiter calling you for a phone screen. If that goes well, then you'll get invited for an in-person interview with HR and the hiring manager. The final step is an interview with a senior manager, like a director or higher. The questions aren't super tough, they focus more on people management than operational knowledge. You know, like how you spot talent on your team or how you help them grow. It was a good experience overall. They showed me around the facility and I met some of the team. They had Covid-19 protocols like masks, social distancing, and sanitizers everywhere.
- How do you identify talent within your team?
- How do you elevate them to the next level?
Associate Buyer
I applied for a position fresh out of college and received an interview. I did not have the experience they were looking for, but that is understandable and I was grateful for the opportunity. Fast forward a year, and you can't even get a reply from their HR Department! Their turnover rate is very high and they must be struggling to fill positions. The problem is compounded when they don't even get back to qualified candidates. I have seen that the position I originally applied for over 18 months ago, has been posted 4 times since they told me I did not have the experience for the position. Clearly, your hiring methods need re-evaluation if you are having that much trouble keeping somebody in that role. Try getting back to potential employees in a timely manner and maybe you will get the quality of candidate you are looking for.
- Can you describe a time when you exceeded the requirements of your role in your career?
