& Process

After the initial phone screening, I was asked to confirm their right to represent me. I replied within minutes, but I was only contacted again several days later, after I followed up. It seemed the recruiter ignored my response and the process didn't move forward. Once I managed to convince them to proceed, I had two technical interviews. The first was supposed to be a general technical quiz with a programming exercise, the second a system design interview. Instead, I had two general technical interviews with the same level of questions and programming exercises.

The interview process involved 5 rounds: HR, a technical interview, and then interviews with 3 team members. Three of these interviews were condensed into a 2-day period. After waiting for weeks and HR missing scheduled call-backs twice, I was told the client had changed their mind and the position was no longer available. HR suggested I apply for other roles I was interested in and reach out to her, as I'd likely get an offer. The same role was posted again soon after; I applied and contacted her as advised. I was then auto-rejected without an interview. I would not recommend this company due to this experience.

The first interview was online and went well, focusing on programming concepts like abstract classes vs. interfaces and String vs. StringBuilder vs. StringBuffer. The second interview was supposed to be online too, but the interviewer was on leave. I had to go to an in-person interview in another city two days later, which was a long trip on short notice. The interview started late because they couldn't get a room. They told me to study SQL, but it wasn't relevant. The questions felt random and too focused on Java, like asking about HashMap implementation. I don't know the exact Java code, but I get how hash maps work generally, and that level of detail on specific code is a lot to ask. It was clear early on I wouldn't get the job because the interviewers seemed dismissive. I think they were replacements for the original interviewer and weren't prepared. The whole thing took over two months and ended messily.

I actually had a really great time interviewing at Bounteous. The process is thorough, and it starts with an HR screening where they really take the time to go over your resume and give you some insights into the company and the role. If it looks like there's a potential fit, HR will quickly set up follow-up interviews with some key people on the team. These interviews were engaging and lasted anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on when people were available. All throughout, HR was super supportive, especially my main contact, Dani, who was a big supporter and kept communication excellent during the whole process. Even though I didn't get chosen for this specific role (sales), I came away with a good feeling and would definitely apply again for any future roles that fit my skills better.
