Applied and filled out a detailed questionnaire which was the same as the first interview. They wouldn't tell me the pay range, even when asked, and instead asked me what I expected. I had an interview with the CEO/Director, which went well. Then, I was scheduled for a 3-hour interview with various team members. This also went well, and I got an idea of who I'd be working with. After that, complete silence. I get that maybe I wasn't the right fit or they found someone better. I reached out to HR after a week, but they didn't respond, which was rude given the multiple interviews and the 3-hour one, and no rejection email.

  • Tell me about the top 10 questions you think are good to ask in an interview.
  • In the group interview, I was repeatedly asked about very specific lab skills. It felt depersonalizing and they didn't seem interested in my general abilities or personality, just if I could perform basic lab tasks like a robot.
  • Can you elaborate on your specific lab skills?

I applied online and then got an email to set up a phone interview. It was with a QC Manager and lasted about 30 minutes. A week later, I got an email to set up a Zoom interview with 9-10 people. It was 30 minutes with each pair of interviewers, so the whole thing was about 3.5 hours. At the end, they mentioned a QC assessment to test general scientific knowledge, including numbers, pharma acronyms, and math. I got an email the next day saying they were moving on, which was surprising because I thought it went well.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Can you share an instance where you had to handle a difficult coworker?
  • What makes you the most suitable candidate for this role?
  • Describe a situation involving a challenging colleague. Explain your reasoning for being the top candidate. A QC assessment will evaluate your general scientific knowledge, including significant numbers, common pharmaceutical acronyms, and mathematical abilities.

I went through six interview rounds, two with a recruiter and four with different marketing team members. Each time, I got great feedback. The hiring manager, though, wondered if I'd get bored, which struck me as odd since experience should be a plus. Around the fifth interview, HR said I was the only one to reach that stage since February, and the team really liked me. Then, between the fifth and sixth interviews, they brought in other candidates and asked me to wait two weeks. After the wait, I had a sixth interview. A week later, I was told they chose someone else, with the vague reason being they "see me as a leader." This left me confused, as leadership skills plus the required skillset should be desirable. The whole process felt disorganized, inconsiderate, and a waste of time, lasting over a month with what felt like gaslighting.

It started with a typical phone screen where they talked about how fast-paced the job was. Then I was told I'd have a panel interview to meet the team, but on the day of the interview, I was told instead to expect a 30-minute call from a middle manager. The manager seemed grumpy and uninterested during the call, which only lasted about 10 minutes. After that, I heard nothing for a month before being asked to do a 3-hour interview with various managers and team members. They all complimented my performance, but I got rejected a few days later.

  • Can you describe your approach to managing project timelines?
