First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Barnes & Noble Education.
Associate
The interview was pretty chill and straightforward. The managers were nice and mostly asked about my availability for the school year and summer. It's helpful if you know about inventory and have cashier experience, and especially if you've worked at another B&N bookstore before.
- Can you describe your duties in your past bookstore or retail role?
- What tasks did you already know how to do without needing training?
Operations Manager
The interview process was pretty standard. I spoke with the General Manager, and we discussed my work history and experience, with them referencing my resume. It felt more like a casual chat than a formal interview. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'm happy I went through with it.
- Can you tell me about your plans for the upcoming year?
Marketing Manager
The interview process was going well until they gave me a big project to complete. After I submitted it, I had to follow up a bunch of times. They finally got back to me weeks later with a rejection. I asked for feedback on my presentation to help me understand why I didn't get the job and to improve myself, but they never responded. I put a lot of effort into that project and felt it was really disrespectful to not even get a reply with some feedback, especially since I even asked if I was on the right track.
- Could you describe your approach to managing marketing campaigns?
Program Management Intern
The interview process was the best I have ever been. There were 4 stages of interviews. The first two will be from two different teams. (In my case, product team and project team). The next will be from the team you'll be working with and the final one will be from a top management team. It was really up to the interviewers style to interview you. Mine was a mix of situational questions, behavioral and past experience.
- Given a situation, what would you do?
- Tell me about your past experience.
- What would you do in this situation?
