First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bank of India.
Compliance Analyst
The interview process involved straightforward questions about current knowledge related to the role, experience with specific programs, and hypothetical problem-solving. They didn't seem to consider my schedule, and I received calls from HR without introductions or prior discussion about the interview time. Follow-ups were also lacking. Management mentioned long-term prospects but showed a preference for multi-year contracts over permanent hiring.
- What's your approach to EDD cases, including AML true hits and sanction-related cases?
Compliance Supervisor
HR called me and asked when I could come in. I went to the Park Ave location, which was hard to find on the first floor. I was interviewed by 7 people, 6 Indian and 1 Russian, sitting on a couch. The office environment was the worst I've ever seen, everyone looked depressed and unhappy. The smell was also horrible. I'm applying for a low-level position paying $58K-$64K, and my current salary is $79K, so having the entire board interview me for this basic role is overkill. 7 people is too many for this job. I have another interview with a different bank tomorrow morning; there's no way I'd wear a $900 suit and use a sick day to be observed by 7 people for such a basic role. Everyone had a really thick accent and spoke with an unintelligible American accent, requiring them to repeat themselves multiple times. I'm only using this interview to observe how this bank operates and have no interest in the position. I noticed multiple regulatory violations with this bank. They seem to bring in many people for one role, likely to maintain EEO designations, without any real intention of hiring them.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
- Describe your typical daily tasks.
- What are the warning signs in financial trading?
General Banking Officer
After an initial screening, most people who attended the presentation were invited for an interview. The interview was very casual, and the interviewers were quite friendly. The questions asked were not very difficult, with some being quite basic, like distinguishing between credit and debit, outlining a commercial bank's functions, and identifying various account types for individuals. Essentially, the interview focused more on assessing comfort level and communication skills in front of a panel rather than strictly testing banking knowledge.
- Could you explain what a nationalized bank is?
- What are the main activities undertaken by a commercial bank?
Marketing Executive
So I went to the Chennai Bank of India premises for my interview. There were 4 people on the panel. They asked me to introduce myself first. After that, all the questions were strictly about marketing. I couldn't answer one question, but I tried to back up all my other answers with examples. Overall, it felt like a really good discussion with some very knowledgeable people, and they even shared some insights when I missed a few points.
- Could you define and explain a specific marketing term?
- Can you give us some real-world examples to illustrate your points?
- What's your understanding of [marketing term]?
