The whole interview process took almost 2 months and had three stages. I made it to the final interview and got rejected because they said I was unconfident and wouldn't fit the team, although they acknowledged my software knowledge. I was really nervous during the final interview since I needed the job badly, which caused me to say some things I regret. I understand they can hire whoever they want, but I felt the feedback was unfair, subjective, and kind of rude. It makes me feel like hiring managers treat people like robots instead of professionals, expecting actors.
So first, we had this introductory meeting, then an online assessment, after which I got a C++ take-home assignment. Then there was a technical interview where they mostly asked about the assignment and my resume.
The interview process started with an HR chat, then I spoke with a senior researcher. She was really nice and honest about how expectations here can be a bit all over the place because of management and the company growing. I felt like our talk went great. She even told me about the next steps, which would be a panel interview, so I was feeling good about it. But then, after a couple of weeks of not hearing back when I followed up, I just got an automated email saying they weren't moving forward with my application.
