So, the first thing they have you do is a take-home assessment where you gotta build a web scraping bot using Scrapy for a bookstore site. After you finish that, there are three interviews that are all behavioral.

Technical Coding

I got referred to the recruiting team by a former junior colleague. Since I've worked in this industry for years as a senior associate, I completed an unpaid trial task. They mentioned they donated "25 USD" to a charity for it, which I found odd. The task was quite extensive. About a week later, two senior engineers reviewed it. As a reviewer myself, I was confident my task was functional and high-quality. I received no feedback on the task or interview itself, not even comments on my work or application. After multiple follow-ups, they stated they hired another candidate because he was a better fit. It seems like a big company, and a few weeks later, the same job ad reappeared. It's quite confusing.

Coding Technical

Applied with CV and code sample, got an automated email. About 10 days later, a nice guy emailed with a trial project based on my code review. It took me about 2 days (11 hours) to finish. A few days later, confirmation. Couple weeks after that, HR (I guess) sent a scripted reply saying my results were correct but code quality (styling) wasn't good enough. They attached a review, which is good. The task was easy to do but hard to do well. Code styling requirements are strict: PEP8 to the letter, Zen of Python, and latest Python 3 conventions are essential. Communication was slow, and one email to an HR person was ignored. That was the only email I sent her. Overall, the attitude was generic, but the attention to detail was great, from the hiring process to code and workflow. Seems like a good company.

  • How about the Scrapy library.
