Assistant Manager
First I had a recruiter call, then a technical screen where they asked me what's three things I would do if I was invisible and I had to make an outfit. After that, I talked to the district manager and they also asked me about my work experience. Then I got the offer.
- They asked me about my previous work experience.
Sales Associate
It was a pretty straightforward interview. They had a clipboard and asked basic questions that most jobs would ask. It definitely helps if you have prior skateboarding knowledge, especially if you already know how to set up a board.
- Tell me about a problem you encountered at a previous job and how you resolved it.
- Do you have any experience with skateboarding?
- Are you familiar with the process of setting up a skateboard?
Total Rewards Analyst
Great experience - no recruiters, so dealing directly with hiring manager. Phone screen was good, hiring manager was open to any conversation and with real answers. That was followed by an in-office interview cycle with the Director, hiring Manager, and other Total Rewards teammate. Took a couple of hours tops including an office tour. Throughout, everyone was friendly, engaging in conversation, and open and honest about the position, expectations, and a realistic view of employees as humans.

Art Director
This was one of the least efficient interview processes I've been through, and I've done over 30. Communication was really poor, HR was nowhere to be seen, and it just felt unprofessional the whole time. It's a shame because I interviewed for another role at Zumiez before, got an offer, and the people were great! So it really seems to depend on the team and hiring manager. For this role, it went like this: First, an initial chat with the hiring manager on Zoom, which was fine. Then, an in-person/Zoom interview with senior leaders and management where they really put you through the wringer. I don't think they talked to the hiring manager afterward because they asked a lot of the same questions and didn't seem to share any info. The worst part was a 6-hour interview with basically the entire team (around 12-15 people), and it included a case study where I had to critique all the designers' work. There might have been one more call to clarify things. After all that, they ghosted me for about 1-2 months before finally letting me know I was rejected for not having enough experience, which was already clear from my resume. I think the team itself was fun, but the whole recruiting process was disorganized and lacked professionalism. They really need to fix their recruiting.
