Vendor Specialist
I got an email for an Initial Phone Screen with the recruiter. This was followed up with an in person interview with leadership a few days later. They're big on the STAR Interview Method.
- Imagine a colleague backs out on a presentation you were supposed to do together, leaving no information or direction. How would you handle this situation?
Vendor Specialist
My interview experience at zulily was positive overall, as I enjoy challenging questions. I applied for two jobs initially, one I wasn't qualified for and another whose name I don't recall. The one I really wanted was Vendor Specialist, but it wasn't listed. I was quickly rejected from the unqualified job via email, which I appreciated. It took about a week to hear back about the other job. The recruiter set up a phone screen where she asked about my past work, interests, and why I wanted to join zulily. I mentioned my preference for the Vendor Specialist role. The next morning, I got a rejection for the job I'd screened for. Later that evening, the recruiter emailed me directly to schedule an in-person interview. I was confused since I'd just been rejected, but she apologized, and I accepted. The interview had three people and involved questions about my experiences, reasons for wanting to join zulily, problem-solving approaches, past projects, and areas for development. They were all friendly, and it felt like a challenging but good-vibe conversation. I was told I'd hear back within a week, and sure enough, I received a job offer for Vendor Specialist later that week, ending the interview process.
- Tell me about how you solved a problem.
Vendor Specialist
My interview process started with a 50-minute phone call, then I had an in-person meeting with three managers from the department I was applying to. The initial phone call was with an HR recruiter and covered my customer service background, how my previous roles align with this job, and the good and bad points of the role itself. The recruiter did a great job of explaining the company culture and the position. The in-person interview got more into the specifics of the actual job. They were really upfront about the negatives of the job, which I appreciated because now that I'm in the role, I know they were being honest. This job needs great time management, the ability to juggle multiple tasks, and handle constant shifts. They're really looking for evidence that you won't crack under pressure and can work on your own, as this company trusts you to get your work done without constant supervision. The whole thing from applying to getting the offer took about a month, and then there was another week for the background check.
- Can you show me how you can deal with constant change?
- Can you demonstrate your ability to excel at multi-tasking without feeling overwhelmed?
