It was a good process with three rounds. They checked my technical ability for the role and responsibility. It also included some case studies involving a lot of data understanding and automation.

So, the interview process involved a few things. First, they wanted to know about my previous work, internships, or projects. Then, there were some technical questions, specifically around SQL, covering things like joins and different ranking functions (rank, row rank, and dense rank). They also threw in some guesstimates, puzzles, and questions on statistics and probability. Finally, there was a part about spreadsheet usage.

The interview process began with a pen-and-paper SQL test involving simple joins and sub-queries. The questions were based on a specific PDF found via a Google search using the provided string. The second part was a ~1-hour discussion where the interviewer briefly reviewed the SQL test solutions but didn't focus on them. The main goal was to assess if the candidate had at least 2-3 years of SQL query writing experience. If not, even with expert SQL skills, rejection was likely. If yes, there was a chance of proceeding. It's advised to convincingly state 2-3 years of SQL experience without needing to explain specific commands, as the interviewer's interest lies in the duration of experience, not technical depth. The JD mentions SQL, but it wasn't heavily emphasized in practice. Avoid mentioning analytics, especially regarding SAS intricacies, as the interviewer may not be familiar with them. Be prepared to discuss your work experience in detail, as the interviewer shows interest, though its impact on evaluation is unclear. Ensure your CV highlights SQL experience multiple times. This was the only rejection due to SQL query skills, and the candidate was surprisingly happy about it. Positives include the interviewer making the candidate comfortable and not grilling them on unknowns. Negatives are detailed in the description above.
