First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zola.
Product Management Director
The interview process was pretty standard. First, there was a 30-minute Zoom call with the hiring manager. After that, I had a 2.5-hour session with five different Zola employees. Overall, it was a great interview experience; I really enjoyed talking with the hiring manager and felt a good connection with the team. A few days later, I received a rejection email stating I "didn't have enough startup experience." It was super frustrating to have wasted 3 hours when they could have easily checked my resume beforehand to see I lacked startup experience. That would have saved everyone some time.
- Can you share an instance where you exhibited a particular skill or behavior?
Product Manager
The interview process was pretty standard, though most rounds were heavily one-way with very little time for me to ask about the company or culture. It was disappointing to spend so many hours talking to the team and then experience weeks of silence, only to receive an automated rejection email in the end. The process included a quick chat with HR, a video call with the hiring manager, and a team interview.
- Can you explain your interest in Zola and this specific role?
- Could you share examples from your previous work that demonstrate your collaboration skills, product design approach, and strategic thinking?
Product Manager
I started with a 30 min chat with the hiring manager (who I connected with on Linkedin). After that, I had an HR interview, then a live case study (30 min) with the hiring manager and product designer, followed by an engineering interview, a CPTO interview, and finally a culture interview.
- Can you design an app for an organic grocery store?
