Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zip Co.
Product Designer
The interview process was smooth and well-organized, starting with a talent screen, followed by a functional interview, a whiteboard challenge, and concluding with a meet-and-greet with the team. The team members were very responsive and made an effort to participate in the interview process quickly.
- What actions would you take if you observed that your team's involvement in the product development process began only at the screen design phase, rather than earlier?
Product Designer
I have over 5 years of experience in Fintech, primarily in big tech. The interview process had 4 rounds and I got positive feedback. The last round was a take-home assignment where I had to redesign some screens for their repayment flow. It was supposed to take 2 hours, but with research and presentation prep, it took me about 4 hours. I presented my work, but was rejected a few days later. They said they chose someone with more experience, even though they knew my background the whole time. The job is still open and they're still interviewing. It seems like they often use candidates for free work and ideas. Avoid this company.
- How would you approach redesigning the repayment experience?
Product Designer
The interview process was pretty standard for a fintech company. It began with a recruiter chat to discuss your background, motivations, and if you'd be a good fit for the role. After that, I had a series of interviews that covered product thinking, how you get things done, and working with other teams. There was an initial screen, then a case study round. Following that, I had conversations with people from design, engineering, and business teams. These interviews focused on how I collaborate, communicate, and deliver results. The final stage was mostly behavioral questions and checking for cultural alignment.
