Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zillow.
Sales Representative
There were a lot of interviews and the process took a long time. You really have to study and be totally ready because you're up against hundreds of other people. The recruiter tries to help you get ready, but the questions they asked didn't really feel like they showed off what you can do.
- Can you share an instance where you experienced failure?
Sales Representative
It was a long and tiring interview process with multiple levels, and each interview was at least an hour long. I had to go through no fewer than 3 interviews before they would approve me for hire. Every interview used the STAR Method. They spread the interviews out over a week or two with no contact in between. Zillow was a good company to work for and had good benefits. Sadly, right after I finished all the interviews, the company had mismanagement issues, and two weeks after I started, they announced huge layoffs affecting over 2000 people. This caused a big rush for employees to find new jobs internally. Since I had just finished all the hiring steps and was onboarded, I had to look for other internal roles too. I applied for 7 jobs, got interviews for 4 of them, and made it to the third interview for 3 of those. In total, I had 10 interviews over 3 months as my department was winding down.
- Can you describe a challenging sales situation you encountered and how you dealt with it using the STAR method?
- Can you give an example of a situation where you had to meet a tough sales goal, detailing your actions and the results using the STAR method?
- Can you share an instance of a successful sale you completed and the outcome, using the STAR method?
Inside Sales
It was a really thorough interview process. Started with a phone screen, then a recorded video interview, and if I passed those, I had a face-to-face with 3 people. The company is super transparent, and you can really tell it's driven by the CEO's vision. The interviewers were great, super knowledgeable, and professional!
- As someone coming from a management background, what's your motivation for wanting to make cold calls?
