I spoke with the hiring manager for about 45 minutes about the job. They shared details about the company and the role, and then asked me some questions about my background concerning the open position. I also had a brief 15-minute chat with the recruiter. It was generally a good experience, but they had a candidate who was far along in the process and they ended up offering the job to. Otherwise, it was fine.

Behavioral Case

It was a 30-minute screening interview. It included both behavioral questions and a case study. The case study was about designing a new marketplace specifically for college students, and I was asked to walk through the entire process. The behavioral questions focused on my MBA experiences and instances where I had to make trade-offs.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online for a Product Manager role and got an email from the recruiter to schedule a phone interview with her a couple of days later. She was very nice and easy to talk to. The call was mainly to get an idea of my background and to tell me more about the job. She mentioned it wasn't necessary to have a technical background as long as I could communicate effectively with developers on requirements. A week after that, I had a call with the hiring manager. He asked a few questions, and at the end, he said he enjoyed talking with me and hoped to speak again soon. The next day, the recruiter emailed me to let me know I didn't get the position because they were seeking someone with a 'strong technical background.' I was confused because that's not what she initially said was needed. The hiring manager's call also left me confused. They should have titled the job 'Technical Product Manager' if that's what they were looking for.
