Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zapier.
Senior Recruiter
First, I had a video call with a recruiter, who seemed a bit distracted and not super friendly. After that, they sent me a homework assignment, a take-home task that took about 45-60 minutes to do, to check out my communication style. Once I passed that, I had a call with the Director of Recruiting, which was a really good and engaging chat. Then, I moved on to a live skills test with three internal recruiters. In this part, I had to read a long job description, lead a mock intake meeting, find and present candidates, and then go over applications with the team. Even though I got through almost the whole process, I got a generic rejection email saying I wasn't moving forward and they wouldn't give me any feedback, which was a bummer considering Zapier's values like 'transparency' and 'feedback'.
- Can you describe your typical recruiting process?
Senior Recruiter
Seriously, best interview process ever. Everyone was so nice and upfront, and it felt like a real chat, not just a Q&A. I got a great feel for the company vibe. There were three main parts: first, the hiring manager talked about my experience and if I'd fit the culture. Then, two recruiters hit me with skills and behavioral questions. Lastly, the department head chatted about the company and culture stuff. Oh, and there was this writing/skills thing that was actually kinda fun and gave me a good idea of what the job would be like. What really stood out was the communication; I always heard back within 24 hours, from applying all the way to the final decision. It really felt like they practiced what they preached, and honestly, it made me want to work there even more.
- Tell me about a role that was difficult to hire for.
Recruiter
The interview process was quite thorough, but I felt it really allowed me to show off my skills. It gave me confidence that the team had solid data to make a good hiring decision. The process involved several video interviews and a take-home assignment. Some interviews were one-on-one, while others were two-on-one. My favorite part, though it made me nervous, was the live skills interview. For about 1.5 hours, I did a live session focusing on my actual recruiting skills and how I collaborate with hiring managers. Even though I was a bit anxious, this part closely mirrors the day-to-day job, making it a great way to assess candidate fit. Overall, it was a good process, relevant to the role, and gave me a solid feel for the company.
- Can you describe a challenging role you successfully filled?
