Content Manager
This is my second time applying to Zapier for a content marketing role. The application process is the same - a bunch of questions that are so broad, you feel like you have to write a novel to explain your value and how you can help grow their content. I knew it would take time, but I felt I was a perfect fit, so I gathered my accomplishments and skills, translated them into answers, and submitted my application. A week later, I got an email saying they were in a retreat and would follow up the next week. That gave me hope my application was seen. Nope. I got the same automated rejection email as the first time. I get they're busy, but using an application process that takes hours for qualified applicants is unfair. I don't know how HR or hiring managers can dismiss so many qualified people without understanding their skills and attitudes. I've concluded that not every application is reviewed by a human, or at least not by someone who knows what to look for in a Content Manager. I also think there's a specific method for answering the CM questions that many applicants miss. Maybe they're just looking for company culture regurgitation or 'productivity/automation buzz words,' but it's disheartening to know you can't get to the next round without knowing this secret method.
- Why do you think you're a good fit for this position?
- What aspects of Zapier's content marketing strategy do you find appealing?
- What was the highest and lowest number of freelancers you've managed simultaneously?
Content Manager
Zapier was SUPER transparent and communicative throughout the entire process. I had a great experience and they worked really hard to find times that aligned with my schedule. I also appreciated the feedback the recruiter gave me post-interview which helped me better present myself in the next one. All in all, it felt like they really were supportive of me throughout the process and just trying to draw out my best self.
- Can you share an instance where you had to deliver difficult feedback to someone?
Content Specialist
So after I applied, I had a video chat with a recruiter. Didn't get the job, but the recruiter was super helpful and gave me some really good feedback that I used for other interviews. A few weeks later, I got two job offers from different places because of her tips. Even though Zapier didn't hire me, the interview was still a good experience. Shows you what they're about, I guess.
- Make sure to answer using the STAR method; anything they ask you, back it up with this method. This is a great tip for all interviews, not just Zapier.
