So I applied for a full-time Associate Manager position at a mall location. The first interview was with the assistant store manager, and it was in the food court, which was super busy and loud. Honestly, he was really accusatory and made me feel like I was being lectured, not interviewed. He talked about the job in a way that felt like an attack on my customer service skills, which I actually have a lot of. The second interview was with the store manager, and that one was way better. She was really nice, professional, and the interview felt well-planned. But then they offered me a part-time sales job, and the assistant store manager said they weren't hiring a manager anymore, even though I saw the manager position reposted online shortly after. It was a really bad experience overall.

So I wouldn't recommend this company to anybody. The whole process took about a month. There were 3 interviews, and one of them involved a table set demo. Throughout the interviews, they kept assuring me the position and hours would be part-time, which was a big deal since I have another job. After the last interview with the district visual manager, where she said my demo looked great and the store manager really liked me, everything seemed like a sure thing. But then, just two days later, the store manager called and said they loved me, but the district manager now wanted a full-time person. They then offered me a sales associate job, which paid way less ($10/hr) and they tried to sweeten the deal with a vague sales bonus. They also said I'd still be doing some visual work, which I doubt at that pay. When I mentioned I made $11 at my current part-time job, they said they couldn't match it. I said I'd think about it. It really felt like a bait and switch. I checked their website, and the visual position was reposted and still listed as regular part-time. I'm super disappointed and felt misled.

It was a really easy going interview. They asked me if I had any experience working in an art gallery, which I didn't at the time. They were really understanding and seemed keen to teach and mentor me throughout the whole process. We figured out pay and start date on the spot! The interviewer seemed like they would show me the ropes and how to run a gallery, rather than just assigning me tasks like coffee runs or mail runs. It was a breath of fresh air to be offered a role where I wouldn't have to do those simple intern tasks, but instead could actually do something meaningful with my summer and work on interesting projects.

It was kind of long, as I had to meet with each manager individually. This meant four separate interviews just for the sales associate position. Thankfully they were all back to back, four days in a row. As far as the interviews themselves, they were very casual and conversational. Most of the questions had to do with my interests and career goals, as well as how I would solve certain problems.
