First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Your Part-Time Controller, LLC.
Controller
I went through a few rounds of interviews over some weeks. It started with an online test, then a 1.5-hour technical interview that involved screen sharing and a live test. After that, I had a 2-hour interview with a senior manager where we discussed a case study. They mentioned they'd get back to me in 3-5 days after the last round, but I never heard anything back. It's a shame because for a company that talks about "accounting with purpose" and ethics, not getting even a basic response feels wrong. People put a lot of time into preparing for case studies and long interviews. A quick note saying thanks for the effort shouldn't be too much to ask. My advice to management is to respect candidates' time. A simple rejection email is quick and actually shows your company values better than just a mission statement.
- What are your skills in accounting and Excel, as demonstrated in a 1.5-hour technical interview using screen sharing and a live test?
Financial Controller
I had an hour and a half interview with someone. They tested my accounting and Excel skills. We also went over the company structure and how it works. It was very informative. The person was very upbeat and it was a pleasant introduction to the company.
- Can you walk me through the experiences on your resume?
Controller
The first interview was 90 minutes and included a basic accounting and Excel test, along with many behavioral questions from the interviewer. There wasn't much time for me to ask questions or learn about YPTC. The second interview was 2 hours long and involved a technical assessment assignment and more behavioral questions. Again, there wasn't enough time to ask questions. The technical part wasn't too hard if you have a strong accounting background. It felt like a very one-sided process where they were checking boxes and getting their questions answered. It would have been helpful to have more details about each interview. I expected the second interview to focus more on my technical and analytical skills, but it turned out to be more behavioral. Talent acquisition was basically non-existent throughout the whole process. Given the time commitment expected, they should provide more information for preparation. It was clear they were looking for a specific fit/background, even if you had the right skills and just needed some polish. They seem to prefer molding people rather than hiring talented individuals who might need training. The salary range also seemed quite low for my market area, and they were firm on it.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered an ethical dilemma?
