First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Young Life.
Area Director
It was a pretty standard process, but they were really clear about everything and made sure the placement was a good fit before I accepted. It didn't really feel like a formal interview, more like a chat. We talked about spirituality, leadership, and moving.
- In what type of town do you envision yourself being successful?
Director
The communication and interview process was slow for a role that wouldn't start for 4 months, which they only told me at the end. The interviewer didn't know much about the role itself and mostly asked about my past experience with the company, with professional skills being less important.
- Tell me about your previous experience and knowledge regarding this organization.
Administrative
After submitting my resume, I was contacted within a few days for an interview at the Young Life office. It was a business casual meeting with just myself and the Area Director. He asked a mix of standard interview questions, like my background and previous job experiences (likes and dislikes) and what I'm seeking in a role at Young Life. He also asked some questions specific to a religious organization, such as my relationship with Christ, when I was saved, my church involvement, and if I have a mentor. The conversation was casual, and he took notes. Towards the end, he started talking as if I would be joining the team. I left feeling positive about the interview and received an offer two days later.
- Could you describe your current relationship with Christ?
- What is your current relationship with Christ like today?
Associate
It was an in-person interview with 3 people (Regional Director, Regional Admin, and Regional board member). They asked personal questions to get to know me and my desire to work in christian ministry. They asked how I would handle certain situations with students, donors, and committee members. The interviewers were very friendly and not intimidating.
- What's your experience with Young Life?
- How did you arrive at this interview with the regional board?
- Was there anything you needed to commit to prayer?
