The recruiter who did my phone screen and kept in touch was great - communicative, enthusiastic, and really paid attention to my application. After that, I had a 30-minute skills test on PowerPoint, which was accurate and fair, without any free work. Then, I had a 1:1 Zoom interview that was really disorganized. The interviewer had her dog with her, kept getting up, and didn't seem to listen to my answers, just moving to the next question. She made it clear she didn't like me when I asked about next steps. The questions weren't hard, but it felt like I was talking to myself because she didn't give any feedback. Her disinterest and distractions made it a waste of time and gave me a bad impression of YouGov.

I spoke with HR first for a quick call, then had a second phone chat with the hiring manager. After that, they had me come in for an on-site interview. During the on-site, they talked a lot about what the job entails and made sure it was a good fit for me, not just focused on my background. I asked if they could speed things up, and they were super helpful with that. It was a good experience, and they kept in touch well.

Interviewing during COVID-19 is tough. I try to ask for feedback to improve my application, and some companies provide it, unlike YouGov, which is why I had a negative experience. Asking for feedback is good for both the candidate trying to improve and to gauge company culture. The interview itself was standard: discuss your background, your experience with specific software, and anything you want the hiring manager to know. The recruiter was responsive initially, but communication dropped after the last update. When I followed up, I was told I didn't proceed to the next stage. I asked for areas of improvement, but received no response, which is disappointing given the current job market.
