So after sending in my application, I got a call for a quick 15-minute chat. It was mostly about me, why I wanted to join, some competency stuff, and what I knew about the company. Then, just two days later, I was invited to this assessment centre. They really made it a whole day thing with food and drinks to keep us comfy. We kicked off with a pair icebreaker and a tour. The actual testing started after a coffee break. We were put into groups of 4, given three client options, and had to pick one YouGov product for them. We had 45 mins to figure it out and get a presentation ready. After lunch, there were some quick number and literacy tests. The last part was an interview with two people from YouGov. It was pretty chill, and since we'd been talking all day, it felt relaxed and I got to ask my questions. Even though the interview questions were standard, I thought the interviewer pairings were a bit off – seemed like the more senior people were together, so not everyone got to interact with them much. Overall, it was a huge learning experience and a big confidence boost to make it to the final 16. Looking back, it felt like a lot of the selection wasn't just about the tasks, but also about how we interacted informally. They seemed to be looking for a certain type of person for YouGov, more than just past experience.

The phone interview lasted about 30 minutes. It had two parts: first, general questions about why I'm interested in the role and the company, and second, competency-based questions. The initial part was pretty standard. The second part focused on showing I'm hardworking, comfortable with tech, and adaptable to change.

I applied on LinkedIn and got a 15-minute phone call. They rejected me a few weeks later without much explanation. It was a friendly and quick process overall.
