- what was the interviewee's experience of the interview?
Backend Engineer
The interview process has three stages. First, a phone interview with HR. Second, a technical take-home test with basic programming language and framework questions. Third, an onsite technical interview, but I didn't make it to this round. They gave me a test where I scored 89%, but then I got an email saying they found another candidate who's a better match. I emailed them for feedback, but they haven't given me any.
- Can you tell me about your current work and why you're seeking a new job?
Frontend Engineer
The interview process at Yolo is pretty great, super simple and quick. The interviewers are nice and know their stuff. They answered all my questions about the company and the role. All the tasks and questions were directly related to the job requirements. The whole thing took about 2-3 weeks. First, there's an intro call to get to know Yolo and the position, covering cultural fit, your background as an engineer, and what you're looking for. Since it's a relocation job, we also discussed the relocation package. Then, a technical interview with a Yolo engineer happens, discussing technical details, your past work, and anything interesting about the job. After that, there's a 30-40 minute frontend specific part focusing on React, JavaScript, TypeScript, and testing. The final step is a take-home test that you get a week to complete. It's a React and TypeScript project with clear instructions and requirements.
- Can you tell me about React hooks, its ecosystem, and state management?
- What are Promises and how do they work?
- What is Redux used for in React?
Supplier Operations Specialist
I had an 18-minute initial interview with the recruiter and team leader. The team leader didn't ask any questions, but the recruiter asked three. One question about the company was skipped because I'd interviewed there before. They said I lacked experience, but didn't ask about my experience or past jobs. When I asked for feedback, the recruiter gave excuses instead of the real reason for rejection. It felt like a waste of my time and effort.
