Customer Success Manager
So there were three rounds in total. The first two were pretty good, like, professional and informative. Then came this final panel interview where I had to do a presentation. It's a pretty standard ask, but it takes a lot of time and you don't even know if you'll get an offer. I tried to stay positive though and just saw it as a learning experience. But the panel interview itself was a bit of a letdown. It felt kind of exclusionary at times, with them making jokes and references I wouldn't get as a candidate. It made me feel like an outsider. They did say earlier on that they 'like to make jokes,' but some of the comments during the panel weren't lighthearted and felt dismissive or just made me uncomfortable. Thinking back, some of it felt like microaggressions, you know, those subtle things that can unintentionally send negative messages. It's a two-way street, interviews. While they're evaluating me, I'm also checking out the company culture. And honestly, based on that experience, it didn't feel like the collaborative and respectful place I'm looking for.
- Can you present on how you would manage a customer that was assigned to you after an unsuccessful pilot?

My initial chat with Yembo was a standard screening, and it went fine. All my interviews had my camera on. Then I spoke with the hiring manager, which was also good. After that, I got a take-home assignment that involved a presentation of up to five slides and a 10-minute talk that I had to memorize. I put in over 20 hours on this, including making graphics and practicing all weekend because I really wanted to do well. During the panel interview where I gave the presentation, I felt like some people on the panel were a bit dismissive of my background. The hiring manager was professional, but some panelists hinted that my skills were already covered by the existing team and used phrases like 'think outside the box' without clear direction. I shared examples of my strong work ethic and how I've consistently gone the extra mile in past jobs, but they seemed to assume my performance was bad just because I was laid off from a small company where half the staff was let go. The truth is, some of the top performers were also let go because you have to make cuts when reducing staff by half. I also got asked questions that seemed unrelated, like about when I started my jobs, which didn't seem to connect to my qualifications. Even though I gave references, it appears they weren't checked, and the feedback from the panel was vague, just mentioning 'culture fit' without any details. My resume didn't have any significant gaps, maybe a one-month gap at most, and that wasn't even what they focused on. They just assumed I was lying about starting most of my jobs in September when only two actually did. Overall, I felt confident and got compliments on my presentation abilities and thoroughness, but the whole process felt overly stressful, and the culture seemed a bit dismissive or even aggressive at times. Giving candidates very time-consuming projects with high expectations, especially when they're juggling current jobs, felt out of line and didn't really show what candidates could do.
- What is your understanding of Yembo?
Customer Success Manager
It was a 3 stage process, all online as it's a remote company. The first stage was with People Ops where cameras were off. They reviewed my job history and skills. The second stage was with the VP of Customer Success (cameras on). We talked about working styles, team dynamics in CS, and industry insights. The third stage was a panel with two Sr. CSMs and the VP of Sales (cameras on). We discussed problem-solving philosophies and team operations.
