Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Yelp.
Sales Associate
It was a pretty straightforward phone interview to kick things off. They got back to me pretty quickly with the next steps for the best candidates. The person I spoke with was really nice and helpful. I learned a lot about the role during that first call.
- What's your strategy for handling rejection when making cold calls?
Sales Associate
The interview process started with a phone call from the recruiter, followed by a video interview with the sales manager. Then, I had another phone interview with the same recruiter. Unfortunately, I was rejected after that. I'm not sure why, especially since the base pay is extremely low, and the recruiter made it clear it would take some time to start getting commission checks.
- Practice a mock sales call, asking discovery questions and trying to keep someone on the phone.
Sales Associate
The hiring process was pretty straightforward. First, I had a phone interview with a recruiter where we discussed the role's day-to-day responsibilities and I answered some questions. The second interview was a video call with the hiring manager via Google Hangouts. During this interview, I had to listen to two sales calls and provide feedback. I also had to do a role-play where they said I wouldn't need to know the product, but I suspect they actually want you to demonstrate product knowledge and try to close the sale. After the role-play, the manager gave me feedback and asked some situational questions. Finally, she asked if I was interviewing with other companies. I believe mentioning I was interviewing elsewhere might be why I didn't get an offer, so perhaps it's better to say no. Good luck!
