First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Yelp.
Product Manager
The interview process was very well organized and the recruiters were helpful. Everyone was nice and praised Yelp. The first stage was a recruiter conversation to understand your experience, skills, motivation for joining Yelp, and cultural fit. The second stage was with the Hiring Manager, similar to the first but with broader product and situational questions. The third stage was a 4-part interview focusing on Product Sense and Product Execution questions to assess how you structure answers and your creativity. This was the hardest part, requiring you to ask the interviewer for more information.
- Tell us about your favorite product and how you would increase its revenue.
- What strategies would you use to make Yelp's business profiles ten times more valuable?

The recruiter reached out after I applied online. Then there was an initial phone screen with basic questions that lasted about 2 hours. This was followed by a Zoom interview focusing on my experience and product-related questions, also around 2 hours. The final round was a longer Zoom interview, about 5 hours, involving a product case study with various people. It felt like a lot of rounds and a very long process overall, perhaps trying to emulate larger tech companies. The interviews themselves went well, and I consistently received positive feedback when I asked for it. Despite the extensive process and my efforts, I never heard back after it concluded; the recruiter ghosted me. After investing nearly 10 hours, I expected at least some form of feedback, even if negative, and was disappointed by the lack of communication.
- Can you share your background and experience with me?
- Could you describe your typical product development process?
- How would you handle these hypothetical situations?
Product Manager
So, I started with a 45-minute call with the recruiter, where we chatted about my background, both school and work stuff, and why I'm interested in Yelp. She also asked me about my aspirations to become a PM. Then, there were some technical questions checking my computer science knowledge. After that, I had a Skype chat with a PM. They had me do a coding challenge on CoderPad (or something similar) and then asked me some product-related questions. Later, another PM called me and asked some really specific product questions about their area. Unfortunately, I got an email saying I didn't make it. The whole process felt a bit unclear, like I wasn't sure how things were going or where I stood.
- Technical questions (CS fundamentals, coding) and product questions relating to Yelp.
- Do you have computer science fundamentals and can you code?
- Can you answer product questions relating to Yelp?
