First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Registered Nurse
The management asked me to shadow in the MICU and CICU/CTICU departments. I was told to set up the MICU shadow with HR. HR didn't respond to my emails about shadowing until I brought it up again. Then they said they couldn't set up the shadow and that management was aware of this. Management seemed to think I wasn't interested in the job because I was trying to get the MICU shadow done. It's unfortunate that the miscommunication between HR and management led to me not getting the job offer.
- Why are you interested in working at this hospital?
Registered Nurse
It was a very informative interview. The staff knew a lot about the company's history, and there were many senior people on the team. They really stressed patient safety, accountability, and flexibility. I first met with HR, and if that went well, I then met with the unit manager. I also shadowed the unit and met some of the team members.
- What makes you the best candidate for this role?
- What do you know about our organization?
- How flexible are you?
Registered Nurse
I applied and got accepted into the residency program. First, there was a presentation about the program and some people came to speak with us. Then we were split into two groups: One group went for interviews and the other group had a meeting with HR. The interview process is straightforward: you're either set up with one or two managers for 30 minutes, then you switch, and HR informs you about benefits. The third part is job shadowing for about an hour, where you follow an RN around and ask questions. It was a really great and well-organized process!
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded expectations to help someone?
