First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Clinical Social Worker
The interview process was great! I really enjoyed it. It felt very professional and I felt my time was well spent. I appreciated the time they spent talking with me and think it is probably a good place to work.
- Can you describe the role of a hospital social worker?
Manager
I applied in May and the recruiter got back to me quickly saying the hiring manager wanted to chat. We had a great interview and they wanted me to meet with some leaders. They told me to follow up in 2 business days if I didn't hear back. I didn't have the hiring manager's email, so I asked the recruiter to send it. I never heard back since. The job is still posted and my application status is still 'Under Review', about 4 months later.
- Do you mind working remotely?
Registered Nurse
The management asked me to shadow in the MICU and CICU/CTICU departments. I was told to set up the MICU shadow with HR. HR didn't respond to my emails about shadowing until I brought it up again. Then they said they couldn't set up the shadow and that management was aware of this. Management seemed to think I wasn't interested in the job because I was trying to get the MICU shadow done. It's unfortunate that the miscommunication between HR and management led to me not getting the job offer.
- Why are you interested in working at this hospital?
Specialist
It was a crazy 2-week process that involved a 1-hour interview with the director and hiring manager, a 90-minute panel interview with the team, director, and hiring manager, a skills assessment, and a 2-hour Q&A with the team, director, and hiring manager. They also did a reference check using SkillSurvey and a background check before making an offer. The steps were all back-to-back with little notice, and the hiring team seemed really eager to fill the spot. The assessment felt too long and detailed for the time given. They also seemed annoyed when I had questions about the role, cutting me off before I could ask much. It felt like a 'tattle tale' or 'throw you under the bus' kind of culture, with impatient vibes from the hiring folks. I suspect I was interviewed as a 'diversity candidate' without serious intent to hire, given their weird/careless approach to the process. Doing the reference and background checks without an offer was a waste of everyone's time. SkillSurvey is too intrusive with its IP tracking, which shouldn't be legal. I wouldn't use a company that uses it again. I got a really cold, impersonal rejection email saying I didn't fit, despite my healthcare experience and being a finalist. Their talent acquisition didn't respond to my feedback request either. Clearly, I shouldn't reapply. Good luck to whoever they hired without healthcare experience and who wasn't a diversity candidate.
