Coding

The interview process included a live coding interview using a browser-based IDE. It featured several ambiguous exercises, ranging from simple to moderately difficult, which are commonly found online. It was apparent that candidates who had prior experience with these specific problems would have an advantage, making it difficult to truly assess genuine skills.

Technical Coding Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was pretty standard for a software engineer role. It started with a quick phone screen, followed by an interview with the hiring manager. Then there were three rounds of panel interviews. The first panel interview involved learning a new node package within 30 minutes while being observed, which was a unique but somewhat uncomfortable experience as it didn't feel like a real-world learning scenario. The second round was a typical coding interview where I had to solve a straightforward problem with helpful interviewers. The final round was a non-coding discussion about the company and a chance for me to ask questions. The main issue was being ghosted by Xometry after the final interview. Despite reaching out and being told a decision would be made by a specific Tuesday, there was no follow-up or communication, which is unacceptable given the time invested in the process. A rejection email should have been sent at minimum.

Behavioral Coding Technical Group

The interview process had at least two rounds, but I didn't get past that. The first interview was a brief chat with the Senior Director of Web Development for the division. Then came a 3.5-hour second interview, which started with a coding test, followed by an interview for the specific position, and then a social-type interview. The last half hour involved talking with the SVP for software engineering. This second interview was originally planned as 3 parts over 3 hours. I didn't anticipate speaking with the SVP at the very end, especially when I was hungry and tired. It would have been helpful to have some warning; I might have managed my energy better. If you're interviewing remotely with Xometry, prepare some good food or snacks to have during a break or to look forward to.
