First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wynn Resorts.
Project Manager
I had a panel interview with some of the Project Management team folks and the hiring manager. We talked about my experience with OPERA migrations, delivering projects, and working with different teams. They asked about managing big system upgrades and dealing with risks, dependencies, and talking to stakeholders. I didn't know it was going to be a panel before.
- What's your approach to kicking off a new project?
- Describe how you would begin a project from the very beginning.
Campaign Analyst
I went through several rounds for the Senior Campaign Analyst job at Wynn. The interviews got progressively more technical and also tested my understanding of the industry and behavioral aspects. Initially, we talked about marketing strategies, customer engagement, and how well campaigns performed. I got scenario-based questions, talked about past projects, and explained technical stuff like machine learning, A/B testing, and data accuracy. They also looked at my communication skills, how flexible I am, and if I can explain analytics to people who aren't technical. Later on, we discussed personalization, working with different teams, and quickly using insights. I also shared why I want this job, how I solve problems, and if I'm willing to learn about the casino business. The VP interview involved a SQL coding task that they needed to review, and then they'd decide on the next steps. After some checking in, they decided to go in a different direction. Even though I did 4 rounds, I never got any feedback.
- What do you consider most important in the Casino Industry?
Data Science
The first interview is a technical interview, but it mostly involves questions about your past experience, challenging your choices. There are no truly challenging technical questions. The interviewer, a consultant with Wynn, seems to have limited data science knowledge, referencing outdated methods like CRISP-DM and asking superficial questions about technologies he can't explain. He seems more interested in criticizing your past work, which is amusing given his conflict of interest. Hiring consultants for this role raises major concerns about the company, and it's best to avoid this opportunity.
- Can you describe a project you completed from start to finish, including its deployment and usage?
Director of Emergency Management
I had a first call with the hiring manager. They asked about my background and my motivation for the role. They also wanted to make sure I understood the expectations and was okay with them before moving to the next step. Then, the hiring manager and I met over Zoom for the main interview. It was a good, back-and-forth conversation about the job duties and the work environment. We talked about my leadership approach and how I solve problems. Salary was brought up during the interview, which was nice to discuss in a professional setting without feeling pressured. It was a very pleasant interview experience overall.
- Can you describe your leadership style?
