Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wyndham Destinations.
Sales Associate
I met the regional recruiter at their office on the sales floor. The interview felt friendly. The strange thing was that none of the other salespeople were very friendly. None of them even introduced themselves to me. You could easily tell who the management was, but none of them said hi. It just felt like a weird vibe. The recruiter was nice, but they weren't the one who could hire me.
- How competitive are you?
- How important is it for you to be at the top of the leader board each month?
Sales Associate
It's a nice place. I checked in and was asked to sit. A nice woman came out, greeted me, and took me to the back for the interview. The interview was interesting. She was transparent and told me up front that it's a mostly commission-based position. You'd get $13/hour plus bonuses or commission. The job is to sell timeshares to tourists attracted by marketing reps offering a free gift for attending a sales presentation. She admitted most people come for the gift and it's our job to sell them timeshares. She also admitted they have a low close rate and high turnover because people don't last. This raised a red flag. You can make a lot of money, but not every month, and if you don't make sales, you only get $13/hour. Their pay structure is hard to understand, but I realized it wasn't for me. It would be hard to feed your family without commission.
- Can you elaborate on your sales experience from a prior role?
Sales Associate
I went to this meeting thing where there were like 25 other people, and the Wyndham folks told us about the company and the job. Then we split up. My group got to tour the presidential suite, which was awesome. The other group did interviews while we toured. When we got back, they toured and we interviewed. It was with two super nice people and only lasted a few minutes. They said they'd call in a day or two. They actually called me on the way home, like 30 mins later, and asked me to come back for a panel interview the next day. So I went back, and it was with 4 new people. I don't love panel interviews, feels like a firing squad sometimes, but these guys were really polite and let me think before I answered.
- Tell us about yourself for 5 minutes, but don't use your resume.
- What makes you a better candidate than the others we've interviewed?
