First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at World Learning.
Program Officer
The interview process at World Learning really needs more HR oversight. My first interview was pretty standard, professional, and straightforward with a senior leader. But then the second interview, with the person I'd report to, had a lot of weird, personal questions that weren't really about my job. It was tough to keep bringing it back to my experience because I kept getting interrupted.
- Given World Learning's lack of structure and hierarchy, are you comfortable working in an unstructured environment?
Program Coordinator
A recruiter contacted me for an initial phone screen which went well. He said I'd hear back by the end of the week, but then later told me the process was taking longer. I appreciated the update. After weeks, I asked for updates and he just repeated the same thing. Then after more weeks, I followed up again and he stopped responding. I never heard back, no rejection, no next steps, just ghosted. It was really disappointing because candidate experience matters a lot.

Project Finance Associate
I put in my application online and pretty quickly after, HR reached out to set up a phone interview. The first call was with someone from HR who asked some fit questions and basic finance questions about journal entries. About two weeks later, I was invited for an in-person interview which was the second round. This was with another HR person and the head of finance. They mostly asked behavioral questions but also checked if I knew how to do a bank reconciliation and how to record prepaid rent with a journal entry. It was a pretty good experience overall, and I liked the office vibe too. I noticed a good mix of people there – different backgrounds, genders, and ages.
- Can you explain the difference between cash and accrual expenses
- If you were setting up at a new school, what kind of expenses would you document
- Are you able to perform a bank reconciliation
Group Leader
This was probably the worst interview process that I've been through. Information and correspondence was incredibly patchy, with two months between applying and getting invited for the first interview, and another month passing between the first and final interviews. The interviewers themselves were lovely people during our conversations and the questions were very pointed to the position. However, on the application website as well as in interviews, I was told that I could ask questions and check on the selections process with staff. Because there was so much time between correspondences, I reached out twice over the course of the four months and received no response either time from World Learning staff. It was a very frustrating and ambiguous process. Overall, I felt disrespected as an applicant. It seems to be a very disorganized organization.
- Can you discuss your background in education?
- What are your thoughts on your personal educational philosophy?
- Describe how you would engage with students.
