Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at World Economic Forum.
Specialist
Applied online and got an interview invite from the hiring manager for the first round. This first round was about 30 minutes. A few days later, I was asked to submit an essay on one of three topics they provided, with a 3-day deadline. After that, I had a second round interview with HR. As others have noted, HR is quite unresponsive; they don't reply to emails on time and sometimes don't show up for scheduled interviews, leading to reschedules. Their questions seemed generic, like they just searched online. After this, they tend to ghost candidates, and that's the end of the process.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What motivates you to join WEF?
- Where do you envision yourself in five years?
Project Specialist
I had a first 30mn phone interview with HR, with standard HR questions. Then two weeks later, I had a 1h videoconference interview with HR and two other people. I had some technical issues with the tool, it was not intuitive. The interview was OK, but not very professional, with broad questions. I also realized that the job responsibilities were different from the job spec (lower responsibilities, a lot of admin). They said I'd hear back in a week, but it's been a month and I haven't heard anything despite following up via email. It was unprofessional.
- What aspects of your previous job did you find enjoyable?
- What aspects of your previous job did you dislike?
- Can you explain your motivation for applying to this position?
Specialist
Had 6 virtual interviews over 5 weeks. Started with an automated interview, then an HR interview, followed by two interviews with the hiring manager. The process also included a panel interview and one other interview. Interviewers were fair and didn't try to trick me. The panel interview was tough, as they usually are. They were quick to respond and send the contract.
- What does success look like for you going forward?
- Can you tell me about your weakest point?
- What is your level of knowledge regarding [topic]?
