First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at World Bank Group.
Environmental Specialist
I applied and heard back about a month later. The first step was an hour-long technical and behavioral interview with a panel of 5 people. After that, I found out I got selected for a final interview with the hiring manager. I then had a 30-minute interview with the hiring manager for the unit.
- What are the most significant climate challenges facing the Congo Basin?
Environmental Specialist
The interview process was interesting. It consisted of technical questions about implementing the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (a risk management tool) and behavioral questions about managing conflict and teamwork. A significant part involved hypothetical questions about how I've applied environmental principles and tools on projects I've worked on.
- Can you explain the mitigation hierarchy and how it applies to infrastructure projects?
- Could you describe instances where you've applied environmental principles and tools to projects you've worked on?
- How would you approach the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment as a tool for risk management?
Specialist
The application process is very formal and rigid. It's hard to get information beyond the job description posted online. The interview process is formal, with a round-table approach where each interviewer asks one question. It's strictly question and answer, with very little discussion. It seems the same questions are asked of every interviewee, so spontaneous follow-up questions and answers are not encouraged. The body language is very neutral and sometimes bored. It's definitely not a typical private sector approach.
- Tell me about a time you experienced conflict and how you resolved it, providing concrete examples from your experience.
