I met with the Task Team Leader, who would later become my supervisor, for a government project in the region. The interview focused more on elaborating on project details, my specialization, the working culture, and expectations. My resume was considered sufficient, so less time was spent on my background. I had to write and submit my Terms of Reference, explaining my interest and qualifications for the role. I expressed interest in leading multiple programs but was limited to two, which I was thankful for later due to the significant workload outside the project scope. Relationship management is crucial for this job.

I applied and the whole process was managed by current analysts through employee networks. They told me that openings for their group are never posted online and you just have to know people to hear about them. When I got to the interview, the analysts messed up the day with the front desk, so I was late. The hiring economists were annoyed even after the analyst explained. The interview felt rushed, they kept working on their laptops, and the analysts kept offering me cookies, which was weird. It was a very strange interview.

I had an interview with a panel of 3 people: two economists and one research analyst. They mostly asked about my CV and some behavioral questions. The interviewers were super nice and didn't put any pressure on me. You should be ready for common questions like 'Tell me about yourself' and 'Describe a challenging situation and how you overcame it.' Also, be prepared to discuss any research papers listed on your CV. My interview wasn't technical, likely because of my previous experience as a research assistant. Make sure to have more examples from your past work, as they'll be very interested in that.
