Software Development Engineer in Test
The interview process was good. They asked multiple questions, mostly technical. Topics included Jenkins, CI/CD integrations, and details about my previous role and education. The interview lasted about 45 minutes and they asked many technical questions.
- Can you tell me about your previous role and your experience?
- What is your experience with Jenkins?
- Can you discuss your experience with CI/CD integrations?

Got a call from the recruiter, then they set up a HackerRank test. After that, I interviewed with the hiring manager and then had two more technical interviews with senior team members. The interviews were good, the interviewers were nice and helpful, and I learned a lot. But then the recruiter, who was responsive before, called and said the hiring team felt I'd be a better fit for a regular SDET role, not Senior SDET. They asked me to think about it and let them know when I could discuss next steps. I emailed the recruiter saying I was okay with the offered position and asked for details on benefits and compensation beyond the base salary they mentioned so I could decide. The recruiter totally ignored my emails and I heard nothing back. My application status online hasn't changed either. It's been a month and I guess they found someone else. This ghosting from the recruiter, who doesn't even have the courtesy to reply after asking for my availability, really gives a bad impression of the company culture. I hope Workday isn't like this and has a great culture where people are treated with respect. I expected some kind of response or at least an acknowledgement of my emails, even if it was a rejection. You can't just tell a candidate they're still being considered and then ghost them without any follow-up.
- Tell me about Java classes.
- Can you write some SQL queries?
- There were coding questions about Java strings.

I applied and a couple weeks later a recruiter called me for a screening. They said there would be at least 5 rounds and gave me a summary of what to expect. I got an email to schedule the next interview, and it said the interview would focus on Workday Core Values. But in Round 1, they didn't ask about any core values, which was surprising since I prepped for that. Instead, it was mostly technical questions, which caught me off guard because I focused on learning about their VIBE culture. The interviewer seemed uninterested and asked questions rapidly. There was no follow-up. Because I thought I got the wrong interview, I contacted the recruiter but got ghosted. After trying multiple times, I was told it was the correct interview and the recruiter didn't know why they didn't ask the prompted questions. Then, I was told I wasn't selected. It was really disorganized, and I wish I'd had accurate information about the interview topic.
- What is your approach to testing when requirements and documentation are scarce?
