First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Workato.
Software Engineer Intern
The interview process was pretty standard. First, a recruiter called to chat about my background and if I was interested in the job. Then, there was a technical interview covering coding, problem-solving, and CS basics. They also asked about how I debug and write code. Lastly, a behavioral interview about past projects, teamwork, and why I want to join Workato. It all felt quick and clear, and I got a good feel for the company.
- Can you describe your process for debugging and writing code that is easy to maintain?
- Could you solve a coding problem, demonstrating your grasp of data structures and algorithms, and thinking aloud as you go?
Senior Software Engineer
I had 3 technical interviews, which was a bit surprising for a typical senior dev role, but it was fine. I passed the first two, but unfortunately, I was rejected after the third one because they felt my live coding wasn't strong enough, even though I had already passed the first two live coding sessions. For a company that isn't top-tier, three consecutive tech interviews with live coding felt like a bit much for a senior developer position. However, the overall process was okay, everything was communicated clearly, and the interviewers were quite friendly.
- Given some easy LeetCode problems, could you complete the coding task involving arrays?
- Could you traverse binary trees and implement the logic in a live coding session?
- Tasks related to Ruby metaprogramming were presented for live coding.
Software Engineer
I sent in my application, and about a day later I got an email with a link to book the next meeting. It took about 3 weeks to find a time that worked. In the meeting, they asked me what I'm looking for and what they can offer. Then they asked some university-level questions, which I mostly don't remember. I went to university for 4 years, and we only covered those topics in the first year. I haven't needed any of that knowledge in over 8 years of working, so I didn't think they were very good questions.
- Can you explain the 'o' of loop of loops?
- What do you want from this job?
- What can we offer you?
