Technical Consultant
The 1.5 month interview process ended very badly. The first 3 interviews were normal, status quo. I was told by the hiring manager that they were hiring for 3 new roles (which appears to have been a lie). I was then asked to complete an assignment and 2 of Workato’s certification courses. The courses took around 10 hours to complete and the assignment took about 6 hours. After submitting the certifications and assignment, we scheduled a panel interview placeholder. The placeholder was never confirmed on their end, and 1hr before the meeting time, we postponed to the following week. 2 days before the rescheduled panel interview, we confirmed the meeting attendees. The next day, the recruiter reached out letting me know they already made a hiring decision and they would cancel my interview. I have no idea how a company can make an informed hiring decision without even reviewing the final assignment or allowing me to present my solution to the panel. It is completely unacceptable to have candidates take your certification courses and complete assignments when you have no intention of following through with the process.

So I went through a bunch of steps and talked to different people. It seemed to go okay, but the issue was the amount of 'homework' they required. I had to take a certification course for their product, completing all the tests and exercises, plus do some specific tasks. I finished 2 out of 3 certificates, which took about 8 hours total because I had to pause and rewind. They told me I wasn't a good fit. Fine, I guess I saved myself from doing all those certifications. The bummer is I actually started liking the product – it was really easy to use and do things with. But I'm disappointed I spent so much time on it. As someone with a lot of experience, I'm not sure why I had to get certifications before the actual interview process was over. Some other companies have just asked for general presentations.
- Are you open to performing technical tasks?
Solutions Consultant
A recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn to chat. Then, they sent me 4 integration development tasks to do on their platform before the first interview. This is a pretty efficient way to check skills and also get a feel for Workato's platform. After I sent my work back, I had my first interview with a Solutions Consultant. We talked about my task submissions, my current job, and other things about the role. Then, I met with two sales leaders separately to talk about my current job and how I'd support and collaborate with sales teams. After that, I met with a Solutions Consultant Manager to dive deeper into my task submissions and assess my integration and automation skills based on my current role. Towards the end, I met separately with the VP of Customer Success and the VP of Solutions Consulting. We discussed my skills, responsibilities, and customer references from my current role to see if I was a good fit. Lastly, they asked for 3 professional references: a past manager, a current coworker, and someone else I chose. The VP of Customer Success or the VP of Solutions Consulting interviewed each reference.
