First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Woodward.
Mechanical Engineer Intern
I had an interview via Microsoft Teams with the Engineering Manager and a Senior Engineer. The manager first talked about the company and the job. They both asked me some questions, and the interview lasted about an hour. I haven't heard back yet.
- How will your background help you with this position?
- Can you tell me about your academic background and any projects you've worked on?
Mechanical Engineer
The interview started with a 30-minute phone chat about my resume and my interest in the company. A week later, I had an onsite panel interview. This involved a one-on-one with the hiring manager, followed by two one-on-one interviews with other mechanical engineers on the team. We talked a lot about my resume and my college background. They also asked general behavioral questions like my strengths, weaknesses, teamwork skills, and career aspirations. The manager also asked about handling stress and gave me a practical problem about rotational forces.
- Calculate rotational forces on a shaft rotating at a certain RPM while a force is exerted on the shaft from a particular direction.
- Behavioral questions, situational questions related to on the job work experiences, and resume related questions.
Mechanical Engineer
The interview process was quite disappointing. I was told there would be two interviews, but it ended up being four rounds. The questions were old and irrelevant, which made me think their systems are outdated. This probably explains why they can't offer competitive pay or modern benefits. After four interviews, they said the salary range on the job posting was wrong, off by $50,000. It felt like a waste of my time and a breach of trust. The recruiter was nice but unprofessional and unorganized. I have serious doubts about the company's ability to adapt and succeed in a modern work environment. I'd tell others to be careful, think about their options, and confirm the salary in the first interview to avoid a similar situation.
- What sparked your interest in this position?
- Can you describe your approach to mentoring junior engineers?
