HR reached out 2 days post-application. A 30-minute phone screen happened the next day in the afternoon. A couple hours later, HR called to say the hiring manager wanted an onsite interview. The onsite happened a few days after that and was about 3 hours long with 3 rounds, each 45 minutes. I interviewed with an analyst, the hiring manager, and a technical person. The first two rounds felt good, very nice and friendly people, seemed like a flexible and welcoming culture. About an hour after the onsite, HR called with an offer. It moved really fast.

First, I heard from a talent recruiter who set up the interviews and interviewed me first. This interview was a casual chat to get to know me and gave me a heads-up on what to expect later. The next interview was a technical phone screen with an engineer and a manager, focusing on C++ concepts. After that, the recruiter wanted a debrief. Later, I had an in-person interview that started with a tour and some advice from the recruiter. This was followed by three 30-minute 2:1 interviews. The first pair focused on technical questions and my past experience. The second pair had me design something on a whiteboard to see my thought process and also asked about my experience. The third pair primarily asked about my past experience. The whole in-person interview lasted about two hours. Everyone was really nice and the interviews felt conversational, not like an interrogation. Finally, the recruiter contacted me to let me know they weren't moving forward with an offer, sharing some notes from the interviewers. It was still a positive experience.

So the interview process involved a bunch of behavioral questions, like asking about my biggest strengths and weaknesses. They really cared about how creative I am and my approach to analytical problems. It was clear they were hoping for prior experience in the gaming industry or something similar, like an industrial setting. Having a GPA over 3.0 was apparently pretty important to even get the initial interview.

I was brought in by a Staffing agency. I ended up working under contract for about 1.5 years, and it started as a three-week gig. My first interview with WMS through the agency was a phone call with my current manager and another person on his team. After about a year, my director asked his VP if they could hire me and set aside some budget for it. This took another six months or so to get approved and for the budget to be allocated.
