First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WM.
Intern
I had multiple interviews for internships. Unfortunately, I didn't get an internship because a key person retired from WM. They were really sorry about the last-minute withdrawal and the interviewer suggested connecting me with people in environmental engineering to help me find an internship elsewhere.
- What motivated you to apply to WM?
MBA Intern
I applied online and didn't hear back for two months. Then, out of nowhere, I got an email from an HR person. After they confirmed my application details, I spoke with another HR person. About two weeks later, I finally had the interview with someone from operations. They asked really general, generic questions like, "Tell me about a time when you faced a challenge?" and "How do you do in team environments?" After what I thought was a good interview, I never heard back at all. I tried contacting the HR people, but they just said, "We have not received any feedback from your interviewer." They never officially turned down the position. So, WM seems to have a very formulaic and bureaucratic hiring process, at least based on my experience.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a challenge?
- What is your experience working in team settings?
Intern
I had a video interview scheduled with someone from the team and an HR person. Unfortunately, their video wasn't working on their end, so they could see me, but I couldn't see them at all. It was pretty awkward. The team member seemed fine and was polite. The HR person seemed upset. Neither of them offered to turn off their cameras even though it was a one-way video situation.
- Can you describe your approach to handling a long-term project?
