Product Manager
So the interview kicked off with some personal questions about my background, experiences, and what makes me tick. After that, they had me pick an app I liked and talk about it. The main thing was figuring out what KPIs I'd use to track its success and then walking through how I'd handle things as the PM for a feature I came up with. This part was all about showing how I think through problems and my product strategy skills.
- Pick a favorite app and propose a new feature, then define the KPIs for it.
Product Manager
I applied for the job via a referral. The HR team contacted me soon after to discuss the role and set up a 1-on-1 with the hiring manager. This interview was pretty standard, covering topics like my background and asking about a favorite app, its potential improvements, and how to track success. Unfortunately, it didn't go well from the start; the hiring manager seemed disengaged and questioned my decisions at my current company regarding product releases. I struggled to name an app they approved of, eventually listing six well-known ones. Although I didn't pass this round, I was contacted a month later for a different PM role. After another seemingly positive initial call, they rescinded the offer, citing a mistake and that the process wouldn't continue. Overall, it was a poor candidate experience, feeling disrespectful and like I didn't get a fair shot due to external factors, not just a lack of personal chemistry.
- Can you share details about your background and professional history?
- Which application do you find particularly compelling and why?
- What changes or enhancements would you propose for an app you admire?
Product Manager
First there was a screening call, then a 90 minute interview with 2 product managers. They gave a quick intro to Wix, asked about my past experience and some product management fundamentals, and did a short design session. I didn't like this experience because the recruiter was curt when I asked for feedback, saying there was none and implying I shouldn't expect any after just one interview. My guess is she didn't want to bother going back to the interviewers. The interviewers themselves were nice and pleasant to chat with.
- Design a feature for a product you choose.
