WithumSmith + Brown General Intern Interview Questions
& Process

This was my first interview with a mid-size accounting firm and I absolutely loved my experience with Withum's interview process. The interviewers made the whole process feel like a conversation. Each person was very excited about their position in the company and communicated in a laid back but professional way. I got interviewed first by an Associate/recent hire (1 yr) and she was so sweet. She eased my worries about being interviewed and gave me more information about herself and the firm. She also asked questions but they were not intense and where more geared towards "What school did you go to and why did you choose it?" Then I got interviewed by an audit manager and then a tax manager. Both were more formal and asked more specified questions based on what I had listed on my resume (Note: I had prior experience already listed). Finally, I got interviewed by a partner and this one was the most challenging interview. By the time I got to this interview, I was mentally exhausted and he asked more theoretical questions. One question he asked me was " Do you think accounting is more math based?" or "What would you do if someone in your group wasn't doing their part?" He also made me walk through my resume, so whatever you list is fair game for them to ask about. The only real difficulty of this interview was the time it took to complete it. I got interviewed by four people and each interview was 30 minutes long. So the whole process took from 1:45pm – 3:30pm for me. The great thing was that they gave me a $15 Starbucks card after the interview as a thank you for being an interviewee (which honestly made up for the length of the interview). Also, the lady I contacted to do my interview listed me for the wrong position (she put me as seeking a full-time position, instead of an intern. I had to clear that with each interviewer as I went along, so make sure you know the position you are applying for!)

Eric (the partner) got my resume, so I was invited for an interview. I wore business professional attire and brought an extra copy of my resume to be ready. I met with Eric in his office, and we discussed my resume. He asked me about myself, my education, my soccer background, and what I like to do. He then shared more about Withum and their core values. He also explained the responsibilities of an intern at the company. Afterward, I met with Tom, who also spoke with me about Withum and my potential role here. Everyone I met was incredibly friendly and informative.

So, there were two rounds of interviews. First, a recruiter called me for a screening, and then I had an interview with two supervisors. Each of those interviews was about 20 to 30 minutes long. The first one was mostly about my resume, and the second one was a bit more focused on behavioral aspects.
