Store Manager
A recruiter reached out because my resume seemed like a good fit. I gave them my info, and then the District Manager (DM) called me. We had a brief conversation, and they scheduled an in-person interview. The DM seemed a bit disorganized and forgot who they were supposed to meet with, mentioning they'd made a lot of calls. The in-person interview went well; the DM seemed to like my responses and we talked about my background, how I manage teams, and how this role differs. I asked about future growth opportunities, and they suggested focusing on the current role first. The interview concluded with a promise to call early the next week, but I never heard back or received an offer.
- Can you describe your management style?
- What do you anticipate being the main difficulty in adjusting to this role?
Store Manager
The interview process involved some basic manager questions. You'll be asked to talk about times you've done or experienced certain things, and explain what you specifically did to handle, resolve, and follow up on a situation with either a customer or a team member.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with a very upset or demanding customer, and explain what you did and what the result was.
Store Manager
The first step is an easy screening, especially if you've been in sales before. Most people not in sales can also get through it. They call the interview process a "PBI." It's totally subjective; the two interviewers rate you on a 5-point scale. If one interviewer doesn't really like you, you'll get a lower score. You need to hit at least a 3.7 to get hired. You can totally BS your way through this by sounding good and using the STAR method. You might have two rounds of this, or if they need someone, they might even tell you the next day you got the job. It just depends.
- All questions are the same for all candidates, nothing unexpected.
- If you receive an unexpected question, it will be impromptu to find out additional behaviors from you.
- Understand that if an impromptu question is asked, it is not a standard question and may not have been asked to other people interviewed for the same position, which is technically unfair in reviewing job candidates.
