Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WHSmith.
Sales Associate
It was a quick and straightforward process, not overly demanding but sufficient to ensure requirements were met. My understanding is that this remains the case. Given that many individuals begin their sales careers here, I believe they accommodate that.
- Can you share an experience involving direct customer interaction from a front-desk perspective?
- Could you elaborate on your skills in managing customer-facing scenarios?
- What methods do you employ for customer engagement when working in a front-of-house capacity?
Sales Associate
The lady who interviewed me was super nice. We went to a quiet room, and another lady was there taking notes. First, we talked about my availability. Then, they asked me some questions, like what I'd do in specific situations. After that, we discussed the job details, like the uniform and pay. They also asked if I had any holidays planned, and I said no.
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
- How would you handle a mystery shopper visit?
- Describe a time you worked effectively as part of a team.
Sales Associate
Applied and heard back from them about 2 weeks later. Had a math test and then talked with the Assistant Manager and Store Manager. It was pretty chill, they asked about my knowledge of the company. Overall it was a friendly and fast process. They called a few days after the interview to offer me the position.
- Tell me what you know about our company.
- Do you have prior experience in retail?
- What skills or qualities do you bring to this role?
