First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Whitney Museum.
Marketing
I went through a few interviews that seemed to go well, and we started talking about the onboarding stuff, like the first 30, 60, and 90 days. I even got a verbal offer that sounded really positive. But then, weirdly, I didn't hear anything back for weeks, and my follow-up emails went unanswered. So I never got the official offer letter or even a rejection. It was a strange experience.
- Can you share some of your ideas for our business?
- What technologies do you think we should consider implementing?
- Could you give us some examples of major projects you've worked on in the past?
Public Programs Intern
The interview process was pretty casual and straightforward. The questions were challenging enough that my preparation was needed, but not so difficult that I was speechless. It definitely required me to have thought through why I was applying for the position and why I would be a good fit.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
Visitor and Gallery Assistant
We had a group interview with about 10-12 people, where managers asked scenario-based questions. After that, we moved to one-on-one interviews with managers where they asked about our background and experience. It felt more casual than the group interview, and they mostly wanted to get to know you. Definitely speak up in the group interview and try to build on what others say.
- What questions might visitors ask when they first arrive at the museum?
- Can you share an instance where you had to resolve a conflict at work?
Visitor and Gallery Assistant
It was a group interview at first, but then I got pulled for one-on-ones. This is good if you didn't get to talk much in the group, but still try to engage with the others. The one-on-ones are for the managers to get to know you better, your goals and what you've done before.
