Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Whatnot.
Manager
The interview process is pretty standard for business roles: first a recruiter call, then the hiring manager, followed by more interviews or a take-home assignment, and finally an executive interview. My experience was unfortunately negative, mirroring many reviews from non-entry-level business candidates. While recruiters were prompt and professional, the hiring manager seemed unengaged and unsure about the role's requirements. The interview lacked structure and relevant questions. It felt like a "fishing expedition" for ideas, not a genuine interview, focusing on specific past solutions rather than typical behavioral or STAR questions. I left feeling it wasn't a serious opportunity, and similar reports online confirm this sentiment. No feedback was provided, which is common.

Manager
The initial recruiter chat was great; they seemed genuinely interested in my background and how I'd fit, and they laid out what to expect next. But the hiring manager interview that followed was a whole different story. They barely asked anything about my actual experience or background, even though I have direct experience that matches the job description. The manager also came across as a bit green. I tried my best to connect my skills and experience to the role, despite the messy interview structure, but I still got a rejection email. It's a bummer because I really like the company and believe I could contribute, but it sounds like others have had similar experiences. The whole interview process was pretty disappointing.

Manager
It was a few interviews - 2 fit interviews with the recruiter and hiring manager. Then a more detailed fit interview and a case interview. Overall it was a really clear and fair interview process that I really enjoyed! I felt like I knew the team well by the end of the process and learned a lot about the role and company at each step along the way.
