Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WEX.
Data Scientist
It was a 3-stage process. First, I had a chat with the hiring manager about my past work. Then, there was a technical interview that involved SQL, Python, and some brain teasers. Finally, an HR interview wrapped things up.
- Can you tell me about a data science project that you successfully deployed into a production environment?
Data Scientist Intern
After your resume gets selected, there will be an HR screening, to touch base on your background and position expectations. Then you will go through two rounds of live video interviews with the hiring team, asking about your class projects, past internships, and some ML/statistics concepts.
- Can you tell me about the most challenging project you've undertaken and why it was difficult?
Data Scientist
I applied online to the Credit Risk, Global Risk Decision Science team and then got an interview invite about 2 weeks later. A Recruiter Talent Acquisition person emailed me and set up a 30 min phone screen. They started by going over the job description and what the interview process would be like. Then they asked me about my work visa, my past experiences, and my reasons for looking for a new job. Interesting point: the job post online didn't mention anything about "coaching and mentoring" but the recruiter said it's part of the role. It's a good idea to ask for clarification on that!
- What is your experience level with SQL, credit risk, predictive models, and working with raw data?
- What's your motivation for seeking a new job opportunity?
- Can you describe your current role and responsibilities?
