Intern
So the manager started by telling me about the company, his team, and the main stuff for the job I applied for. Then, we talked about my projects, my past work, and what I know about the company. After that, he gave me some situations and asked how I'd tackle them, like figuring out the key metrics and KPIs needed for certain goals and what data we'd need to gather. And finally, I got to ask my questions.
- What are two metrics that you can think of to gauge the impact of new initiatives?
- Can you suggest two metrics for measuring the success of new plans?
- Could you propose two metrics to assess the effectiveness of new plans?
Software Engineer
First, HR screens applications for basic qualifications like education, tech skills (Python, C++), and experience. This takes about a week. Then, you'll do an online coding test on CodeSignal, focusing on data structures, algorithms, and logic, which lasts 1.5 hours. After that, there's a 30-minute call with a recruiter to go over your background and a quick tech quiz. Next are two technical rounds, each lasting 2 hours. Round 1 includes a 1-hour coding challenge where they watch you code and ask technical questions on software design, databases, and architecture. Round 2 involves presenting a past project and then a problem-solving session where you'll design a system or debug code. Following that is a 1-hour behavioral interview to check your soft skills and how you fit with the company values. Finally, a hiring committee reviews everything, and if you're good, they'll make an offer. The whole thing takes about 4-6 weeks.
- Can you share an instance where you collaborated closely with someone quite different from you? How did you manage your interactions, and what was the project's result?
- Can you tell me about a time you had to work closely with someone whose personality was very different from yours? How did you handle interactions and what was the outcome of the project?
Engineering Manager
I first had a call with someone, then they said we could schedule the first technical interview. It took a lot of effort to find a good time slot because the interviewer was in the USA and I'm in East Europe. At some point, the first person stopped responding to my emails, so I had to schedule the meeting with the second person myself. I made a compromise and scheduled it for 8:30 PM my time. We had a 45-minute talk, which I think went pretty well. After that, I followed up with both people after 4 business days but didn't get any response. The staffing process could definitely be improved. I wouldn't proceed with a company that isn't interested in its candidates and wastes everyone's time.
- How do you collaborate with your team, both the project team and your unit?
- In what ways do you implement the Servant Leadership management style within your project team and unit?
- Given that you work for a service company, do you believe you influence the product being developed for your client? Can you share some examples?
Front End Developer
First, I applied with a motivational letter and CV. Then, a recruiter called me for a 20-minute chat about my current situation and motivation. After that, I was given a practical take-home task using js/ts/react. The main requirement was that the code had to be clean and well-tested. Finally, I had an in-house interview with the Product Owner and the Technical Lead (FE). They asked open-ended questions about my motivation and daily work instead of super technical ones. I also had time to ask questions. This last part lasted over an hour and was really interesting and fun. There were supposed to be more stages, but they didn't happen for some reason. I received the results the same evening but no offer or feedback.
