Software Engineer
I went through an HR round and an online assessment, and I'm now waiting for the next interview invite. The online assessment was quite challenging with difficult questions. The whole process has been moving fast.
- Can you describe your past work experience?
- Could you elaborate on the projects you've been involved in?
Senior Software Engineer
Started with a recruiter call, then a take-home test. After that, there was an hour-long technical interview covering simple React and JavaScript topics like DOM and hooks. Unfortunately, the HR person disappeared after the interview, and I got no response to emails or calls, so it felt like a waste of time.
- Could you explain concepts like JavaScript event loops?
- How do you handle DOM manipulations?
- What are React components?
Software Engineer
It started with a phone call, then an online test, followed by a remote video interview. The video interview was strange; instead of a typical interview, they audited my current role's security. They asked if I did specific tasks, and when I said no, they marked it as bad. They questioned why my security posture wasn't like a bank's, and I responded that perhaps it's because we're not a bank. They seemed to think I was a terrible candidate for not having a hardened security posture like theirs. My advice to Westpac is that bank-specific security practices should be trained during onboarding, not expected beforehand, especially from those not working at a bank. I say this as someone working at an ISO270001 company with annual security training and certifications.
- Can you describe how you handle and prioritize your tasks when faced with pressure?
